Years ago Robert O'Neal (keyboards & vocals) and Jeff Mooney (guitar & vocals) decided to put together a Grateful Dead cover band.  They recruited Greg Staggs (bass & vocals) and Mark Lanter (drums & vocals), and Electric Monkeywrench (sometimes "Left Hand Monkeywrench" in its acoustic incarnation) was born, playing regularly around Birmingham and beyond.  When Jeff moved out of state, the band went on hiatus until late 2009, when the other members recruited Sam to fill the guitar chair for an occasional show with the reborn EMW.

Though Sam learned most of the Grateful Dead repertoire as a teenager, and has performed with Dead member Vince Welnick and "Dead to the World" radio host David Gans, for many of these songs this is his time playing them with a band in public. He is enjoying getting to re-create this music that influenced him and so many others in the jamband scene - and especially to do so with these great musicians.  Wear your tie-dye and come enjoy music from all phases of the Grateful Dead's career, even some from the Jerry Garcia Band and Old & in the Way.
